Faithful Medicine: Bioethics and Christian Thought
With Dr. Jennie McLaurin
Associate Professor, Bioethics, Dean of Students BS (Salem College), MD (Wake Forest), MPH (North Carolina-Chapel Hill), MCS (Regent College)
Christians struggle to make sense of modern medicine and its bioethical challenges. Abortion, euthanasia, AIDS and stem cell research continue to make headlines and fuel debate. But less public concerns also occupy us, such as infertility, aging, chronic pain and our neighbour's unmet medical needs. The goal of this conference is to assist health professionals, church leaders and the wider Christian community to think well and Christianly about medicine, and thereby offer reasonable and faithful approaches to bioethical deliberation.
This conference is also available as a full Regent summer course. See the Faithful Medicine: Bioethics and Christian Thought course page for full details.
The AAFP CME Accreditation Department has declared that "This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 25.25 Elective credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians." The full 25.25 CME credits will be awarded to those completing both the conference and the Faithful Medicine course (June 8–12) . 12 credits will be given to those who complete just the conference. Credits for those completing the course alone will be granted on a sliding scale. See the Faithful Medicine course page for details.
Dr. Jennie McLaurin is a pediatrician with a degree in maternal and child health, and has worked for many years with the American Health Resources and Services Administration, serving immigrant populations. In addition to her medical training, she holds a Master of Christian Studies from Regent College.
